NJ Agricultural Society Poster Contest:
Congratulations to the Peter Copper students who won the
New Jersey Agricultural Society Poster Contest! Gwyneth
Crispano (3rd gr.), Sara Lidsky (2nd gr.), Payton
Kiasevicz (1st gr.) and Amy Rod (Kindergarten) were the
winners for Peter Cooper School. All four students went
to Trenton to receive their certificates plus a gift
card to Michael's for $25. Way to go, guys!
Garden Activities: The teachers
and students at Peter Cooper were hard at work this fall
season. During the month of October, the 2nd graders
harvested sugar beets, made 'beet booklets' with facts
and drawings about things they learned, read stories,
and tried the 'raw sugar beet' comparing it to a 'red
pickled beet'.
November brought thoughts of spring with
the Kindergarteners planting tulip bulbs. The 2nd grade
learned about Native American Culture and ground corn
inside the classroom for a hands-on experience. And the
3rd grades planted winter wheat, a cover crop to help
avoid soil erosion over the winter. Come the spring,
they will measure the growth and make observations.
The gardens are all now put to bed for
winter. Come the spring, we'll see what's growing!
